Comcast in many areas is removing the popular weather channel called WeatherScan. Fortunately it is still available in Huntsville on channel 101. The catch is you must subscribe to Digital Preferred or above to get it. Another gotcha is that it is only available on regular cable boxes but not DTAs.

In late September another weather channel was added to the Huntsville area. The local channel WAAY partnered with WeatherNation to create it. I do not know what Comcast tier is required to get it since it is not listed in their official lineup yet. However I do get it on my DTA so at least people with Digital Starter should be getting it.

WeatherNation TV
Broadcast: 31.2
Comcast: 207
WOW: 132

The channel features regional and national weather from WeatherNation TV with local forecasts from the WAAY weather team, every 10 minutes on the 5's.

I prefer to look out the window. I know it is a frightening thing for many people to try, but if there are clouds, I say to myself "Huh. Looks like it is cloudy outside." If there are little drops of water on the ground, I take a chance and think "It must be raining!" Scary as it might seem, I have gone for more than a day without someone trying to tell me what the weather is.

Well harry, that may work for you & a lot of people but it doesn't work for some of us who need to plan our daily activities around the weather, such as perhaps looking at a weekend forecast on a Thursday. Hence a simple look out the window does not tell us what will be happening in 4 hours, or in 4 days, etc.
As for myself, I have a long commute to work via a transit express service & walk from the end point of it to my office & repeat it going the other direction at the conclusion of the work day. So, an actual forecast w/ some measure of accuracy is vital for me, as in do I take an umbrella or leave work early to try & beat an incoming line of t'storms or snow.

I have found that the lack of accuracy of many of the local forecasts makes it not worthwhile to obsess over them. Part of it is that the forecasters are challenged by the weather patterns here, part is that they forecast primarily for Huntsville. Anything more than two days out seems to be as much guesswork as anything. I don't mind the inaccuracy too much, I just think of it as them practicing to get tornado weather a little more accurate, and I do appreciate their efforts during those times. I just find them hard to take seriously much of the year.

You travel to work via a transit express service and walk from where it lets you off to your office? Where on earth do you leave? Atlanta?

Really? the weathermen are always wrong myth is from before Doppler and computer models.
With the exception of snow predictions, I find our local weathermen to be very accurate.
They call for tornado outbreaks days in advance, and it seems to hit just like they say. Sometimes the total amounts of rain are a bit off, the high/low temp is a few degrees off, but it is mostly spot on.

Oh, we're not judging on showmanship here.

I wonder if Dan made his family sit in the bathtub surrounded by pillows and wearing football helmets.
