Default MDA at Redstone

I didn't want to jack the other thread but I have a similar question....

I'm considering a job offer at MDA and was trying to locate the neighborhoods that would offer the shortest commute. It looks like the MDA building is closest to Gate 1 but is this the closest gate time wise? I was hoping for about a 10 minute commute so I could run home during lunch. We don't have any children so schools aren't an issue. Is this feasable for housing in the $120-170k price range?

Also, how is the boating and fishing on the Tenn River. Would it be worth it to look into bringing up a 35 diesel powered sport fishing boat?

Understand that the drive from Gate 1 or Gate 7 is approx 10 minutes to the Von Braun Bldg where I think you would be working. Gate 1 is closer than Gate & but there is an access road you must take to get to Gate 1. Gate 9 is the main gate and also takes approx 10 minutes. I would recommend just decide where you want to live and there is a gate close by that will get you there in the same approx. time.

Not a fisherman but the Tenn River lakes here provide an abundance of varieties of fish to seek. Good largemouth, smallmouth, and depending on the lake walleye, sauger, crappie, bream, catfish and some stripers.

Lots of places to put in the river closeby

There are lower cost homes near all the gates.

Whatever you do, don't move to somewhere near Gate 8 (Patton Rd.). High-crime, low-property-value area.

IMO running home for lunch usually isn't an option, unless you take a little extra time at lunch and make it up earlier or later. Your boss may be OK with that, some people run or work out at lunch. I once worked on base down by the River and would jet ski at lunch...

Finding something in your price range in a short drive from the Arsenal or the MDA off-base facility depends one what type of home you're seeking. Condos, yes, we can probably find something. Townhomes, yes, probably - some even new. Homes, maybe/maybe not depending your preference of neighborhood, age of home and amenities.
