I've never seen a black bear or a big cat on Monte Sano, but there is a 'Panther Knob' on the backside of the mountain.
I would think that with all the development surrounding Monte Sano, that we won't be seeing bear or cat migration there, but I'll bet there's some at Skyline... Cave crickets (((shudder))) I hate those things... They're all jumpy and stuff... |

Back on topic - zenjenn, now that you've moved into your house, can you provide a report on your apartment experience? I think I recommended Brittany Point or Lily Flagg Station...
What places did you check out, prices, amenities, terms, &c? |

Zenjenn, hope you enjoy Huntsville as much as I always did. We moved from there to SW Georgia a year ago and I STILL miss civilization. I hated not seeing Old Town's luminaries at Christmas, and I miss hills (I know, Monte Sano is NOT a real mountain). Huntsville remains my favorite place to live, but hubby's job pays twice as much here (Albany) as it did in Huntsville, so here we are.
![]() Oh--and cave crickets? BLEARRGH. HATE those things, but the real menace is brown recluse spiders. I lived in an old apartment building in downtown HSV once that was the Kingdom of Spiders. Feh. Used to hike on Monte Sano trails, and never once saw any bears or wildcats (or snakes either, for that matter, but as always, YMMV). Enjoy the life there. I wish we still could. I'm considering a move to Huntsville, my birth place but I hesitate. In the 30+ years that I have been gone, I married a beautiful hispanic woman. We have three wonderful children. We have been married for 15 years and everything and everyone have been nice but occasionally we will run into folks who, thru various means of expression, suggests disapproval of our "inter-racial" marriage. Some places are better, more mature, than others. I was curious, how's Huntsville these days with regards to mixed families? Thank you.

Peter1964 - does Hispanic even count as "mixed"? Not a problem...

Huntsville is a very progressive and diverse city. I don't see a problem either.

Hi ZennJenn,
I thoroughly enjoyed reading some of your blog this morning. My husband is about to accept a position in Huntsville and we'll be moving from the Central Coast of California. I'm really nervous about making such a big move! I'm struggling with the idea of leaving all of our family behind. My daughter is only 16 months old and my mother is heartbroken that we're leaving. This has been such a tough decision and I'm still struggling with it and finding myself wanting to back out at the last minute. I'd love to hear more about your feelings on the weather (humidity) and houses in that area. What was it like moving away from your family? Do you have a preference on different neighborhood's near Huntsville? Any thoughts or info you'd like to share would be greatly appreciated right now! This is a very emotional time for me. Thanks a bunch! Jessica |
