Update on Sureshbhai:

“Mr. Patel was transferred to a local rehabilitation center on Monday. He has a long, difficult, and uncertain rehabilitation process ahead of him. Mr. Patel and his family deeply appreciate the outpouring of prayers and support he has received.” – Hank Sherrod

Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, issues an apology:

"I deeply regret the unfortunate use of excessive force by the Madison Police Department on Sureshbhai Patel and for the injuries sustained by Mr. Patel. I sincerely hope that Mr. Patel continues to improve and that he will regain full use of his legs."

Get Well Cards:

With the approval of the family and lawyer, a Get Well Card campaign has been organized by a supporter in Seattle. Feel free to send Sureshbhai a note wishing him well and showing your support for his recovery at the following address: Mr. Sureshbhai Patel, Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, 107 Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL 35801.

Thank you for your support and please continue to share Sureshbhai's story.

This isn't funny. A man has been paralyzed by the USA "justice" system. This is incompetence at its highest.

I wonder how the homeowner who called in that suspicious persons report feels now that she sees what her actions have led to.

It was not the fault of the homeowner/resident that called it in. People should report anything they think is suspicious in their neighborhoods. It was the fault of the police officer that slammed him to the ground, not the homeowner/resident that called the police.

It was a man that lived in the neighborhood that called it in and he was concerned about his wife because he had to leave for work and she would be left at home alone. We initially heard that Mr. Patel was walking up to garages and looking into the windows. I'm guessing the caller feels bad now, that was his neighbor's father that got injured and might not walk again. I'd feel bad. But we should not blame the caller, it was the police that used too much force and ended up causing injuries.

Quiet Madison street where Indian grandfather slammed to ground by police part of 'very diverse community' | AL.com

And many emails and online comments have blamed the caller for reporting a man who doing little more than walking on a sidewalk. But Hank Sherrod, attorney for the Patel family, has taken a different view.

Sherrod on Friday told AL.com that he does not blame the caller and does not believe any in the community should blame the caller.

"It would be a terrible injustice if we put the blame on the caller, " said Sherrod. "I'm actually concerned for him and for the community." Sherrod said somebody else could have made the call for some other reason.

Sherrod said the problem is not that police approached Patel to respond to a call. The problem is what happened next.

I dont think what happened to Mr. Patel is funny. I was making fun of Weaverra's comment.

The guy who called the police might feel bad or guilty today but it isnt his fault. The blame solely lies with the Madison PD.

Walking down the side walk while appearing to be black and looking at houses is not a crime. He wasn't going up to windows and peering in, that was some BS embellishment added during the initial damage control phase.
