So the bottom line is if I send my kids to JP2, in order for them to play sports I will need to locate a house in Huntsville. They drive 7.8 miles each way now so I wouldn't want to be more than 8 miles away from the school.

Look in the Madison (outside city) area, zip code 35757, there are plenty of homes still being built and for sale in the area. We have great schools, and St Johns Catholic School and Westminister are both within 5 miles from my house.

Unless it's in Huntsville, my kids can't immediately play sports at JP2 so that's the current issue.

There are parts of Huntsville city to the north of Madison, north of 72. And there are parts of Huntsville city south of Madison, down Zierdt Rd. Those will be your best bets inside Huntsville city limits within 10 miles of JP2 and St. Johns.

So the rule is you must live in the same exact city as the school to play sports right away, even if it's a private school? Do not understand this at all. It's a private school, you can live wherever you want. People come to JP2 and St. Johns from Tennessee.

Yes ... but if the kids are 7th grade or higher (eligible to play sports) when they transfer in, they have to sit out a year. That's why you'll see people transferring kids in for their 6th grade year ... to get that out of the way before they start playing sports in 7th.

Got ya, just don't understand the purpose of the law when moving in from out of state to attend a private school. It's one thing if you're moving across town to live with your aunt for your senior year to play on a better team.

Maybe you can answer my previous question. If I live in Madison, and my kid goes to a private school in Madison though 8th grade, can they go to Bob Jones or wherever they're zoned and play sports as a freshman?

If the private school is a member of the AHSAA then they have to abide by the transfer rules. Trust me I'm not happy about it as there are a ton of housing options in Madison that I'd like to consider. When I first reached out to JP2, they specifically asked me if my kids played sports and where I was going to be living. Clearly they've ran into this problem in the past.

Because the private schools here recruit players and the AHSAA is trying to discourage it as much as it can.

Yes ... your child would be allowed to play sports as a freshman because now he/she is going to the public school they're zoned for anyway.
