I remember reading a couple years back that the new city manager for long term planning would like to move the Madison County Courthouse out of the square downtown to open that area up some. I'm just curious if there's been any further discussion of that or if it's just a pipe dream.

I thought they were talking about moving the municipal building, the one with the mayoral offices.

That building is "falling apart" literally, they have fences around the base because the slabs keep falling off.

Well Madsen has stated that he would love if the courthouse moved and I recall hearing somewhere* that they had even scouted possible locations a few blocks from its current location.

I hadn't heard about them moving the municipal building. That's an interesting tidbit, as well. You're right that it's due for some major upgrades or demolition!

*Can't remember where I heard this, honestly. That's sort of why I started this discussion. I was trying to validate my screwy memory

to bad the courthouse is so crowded by streets and other buildings. I love the open feel of the square in Athens and Fayetteville with their old courthouses.

PS - this weekend is the slawburger festival in downtown Fayetteville.

Haha. That's a good point! But how quaint and classy does "Old Courthouse Square" sound? Eh?
