Does anyone have any opinions about the area of Huntsville that is east of Monte Sano, near Dug Hill Rd. and BB Lawler in Madison County? Is is safe? Are there grocery stores, etc. shopping nearby?
Thank you!!

That's roughly at US72 and Dug Hill RD. Dug Hill Road ranges from nice to extremely nice. Safe = yes, except for wrecks at US72 and Moores Mill. Also note that the Myrick Motel at US72 and Shields across from McDonalds is known for housing sex offenders.

There is a Publix or Kroger on Winchester Rd about a mile or so away.

The Harris Hill development at US72 and Moores Mill (about a mile toward the city) will expand shopping. Here's a great thread:

I should add that the mountainous area in your backyard is Monte Sano State Park, great hiking / biking trails, lots of nature.

That hotel should be torn down when the overpasses/service roads are built for 72

For that to happen, would the city need to declare imminent domain? Whatever it takes for the city to wipe the slate clean, they need to do it. The property is too close to the state right of way and is an eyesore.

That hotel is privately owned as far as I know.

This area is great! Live here right now (on Windwood Dr). It is very convenient to North Huntsville via 72/565 and Hampton Cove via Dug Hill/King Drake. There is very little traffic yet we're less than one minute from Hwy 72. We're about mid way between Publix in Hampton Cove and Publix on Winchester Road. Then of course Target is just over the mountain on Cecil Ashburn. All in all, we love it!

Arrow AS for Myrick Motel

I grew up less than a mile from Myrick and it's always been a run-down little dive. The fact that so many sex offenders list it as their residence is due in large part to the nature of the registry (temp addresses allowed and little follow-up later). I've seen the interchange plans for the overpass at Shields and it will definitely take out Myrick, Texaco, the Oil Change place as well at McDonald's!
