Do any of the local wood suppliers in town do on-site cutting? I need some MDF and 2x4s, and would like it cut to size. I know that Lowes and Home Depot can do it, but I have concerns about their quality. I just called City Lumber and they can't cut on-site. Are there any other places in the area that can supply and cut to the size I need?

You mean cutting at the store, right? "On-site cutting" is what a carpenter does... or a guy with a portable sawmill. What are your concerns about the quality of the big box store cutting?

Yes, cut to the size I need at the store.

And I've been to Home Depot several times over the past few weeks for some odd jobs around the house, and took a look at their wood selection. I wasn't impressed. I assume Lowes will be the same. For MDF, I guess I could get it at a big box store and have them cut it, and hope the 2x4s they have that day look better than previous trips.

You do know you can specify grade? The low cost 2x4s are just to entice bargain hunters. There should be some better grade ones available if you ask. MDF is MDF.

Every time Mrs Catfish has a project for me, I come up with a reason to need a new tool to get the job done. After 32 years I have quite the collection. Buy a saw, cut the wood. Cowboy up.
