It's not on the news media, but Spur is relocating its headquarter within Huntsville to Stovehouse. I'm seeing major building/parking renovations at Stovehouse and it seems like Stovehouse is shaping up. It might become a workplace for small companies that want to attract millenials.

Pretty sure that's the sequence. At any rate, it's the same building. I'm not sure why it's vacant or mostly vacant ... maybe AT&T moved their headquarters to another city?

Converting vacant downtown buildings is happening in several places. In Jackson, MS, the Lamar Life building has become lofts, and in Meridian the Threefoot Building is being renovated into a Marriott hotel of some flavor. Huntsville doesn't really have any buildings to convert, unless you count the Times Building.
The Times Building is a difficult situation. Historic Art Deco building and has been very carefully restored by Randy Schrimsher and brought up to code but currently is only used as commercial offices, Its not a good or possible candidate for a hotel either (handicap access, bathrooms, fire exits, not allowed modifications etc). Interior stairwell does not meet residential code I believe. There are several businesses on the ground and upper floors. Parking is an issue but will be resolved when the new parking deck across the street is finished. Its a beautiful building and is protected so that a good thing.

In addition to the office space, this development is supposedly centered around restaurants, coffee shops, rooftop bars, entertainment & casual hang out spaces. It's not exactly shocking that not a word was said when a local online staffing company announced that they'd be the first tenant.

I can't imagine that would be economical, given the relatively low concentration of residents/workers downtown. I feel like if Huntsville ever got light rail, it would make more sense to serve Research Park, NASA, Redstone, etc.

I would have to say it would be a great idea for there to be a light rail service thru out AL. Starting from Huntsville, thru Birmingham and on to the Capital. Hundreds of people drive from Huntsville to Birmingham for work every day. I have seen so many ways thru out the US, that light rail would help elevate problems of major traffic issues and actually create clean energy and actually create energy.

I would love to see rail develop in Alabama and I would use it often. Would love to see rail from Mobile to Montgomery, Birmingham, Cullman, Decatur/Huntsville to Nashville, Louisville, Indianapolis and Chicago.

I want a mag lev to the beach.

TC2 - Light rail is for local areas, not for long distance travel. "Hundreds of people"? Even if true, that's not enough to justify spending millions of taxpayer dollars. What amazing technology would "actually create energy" from light rail?
