Not really, it is caddy-corner to MidCity and also across the road from places like HomeGoods, Earth Fare and Chipotle. The existing LaQuinta is in a bit sketchier part of University.

Itís near MidCity so everyone is trying to fit things anywhere they can. Also remember if the new Ampitheatre is approved they will need Many hotels rooms nearby. 2 are planned for MidCity so far. Hopefully a third too.

The Holiday Inn that sits on the edge of Mid-City could really use a facelift. It is going to stick out like a sore thumb (more-so than it already does).

Yeah, that's true. I was thinking more the area of what used to be the University Apartments, but that's around Sparkman. That's correct about MidCity and hopefully the amphitheater.

Hopefully they tear that turd down and rebuild a new one or at least refurbish the rooms and interior and tear the brick off the outside that matched the old mall and replace it with a new exterior.

I don't think that means no other Chick-fil-a in other parts of town, just means we may have to wait for another person to make the move.

They announced a $4.5M renovation for the hotel last Summer.

Quote:
Renovations are planned for the Holiday Inn located on Research Park at the MidCity development.
The $4.5 million plans will include all 200 rooms being revamped with new carpet, paint, lighting, and windows. The hotel’s front desk and lobby will get a Market Place with drink and snack items.
The development will begin in July and is expected to be completed by December of 2018.
The website says its planned to be completed in January 2019, so it doesn't like the dated exterior will change.

There is no indicated timeline so it is unknown what progress has been made or when the completion time will be.

This project has been in the works for some time.
A New York City company plans a large multi-use development including a new hotel on Clinton Avenue across from the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville, the company says.
Rocket Development Partners, Inc., has control of the 13-acre site known locally as “the Coca-Cola bottling plant” site, company spokesman and principal Dan Shields said today. It is one of the largest remaining open pieces of land in or around downtown, city officials confirmed.

Shields said a new hotel is part of the plan and that “numerous” hotel developers are interested in the site. “This hotel would complement the VBC and not compete with space in its existing or planned expansion while creating the ‘Clinton Gateway’ envisioned in (the city’s) master plan,” he said.

elds said the development would fit in with the city’s master plan for downtown, and the developers have hired the same company that did the plan, Urban Design Associates, to help design the project. Shields said the company has also hired Matheny Goldmon architects of Huntsville, and architect Paul Matheny confirmed the partnership today.
