I am trying to replace my hot water heater from attic, but the pressure relief is hard piped with pvc pipe (which is routed from the upstairs to the outside. There is no way for me to disconnect this pipe without breaking it. Do I need to go ahead and break the pvc pipe or is there some way I could keep it intact?

You might want to post the question in the General Forums: House.

Carefully cut it witl a hacksaw and then buy a pvc connector sleeve and welding cement. Will cost about $3 and is super simple to do.

Why would you think you need to "break it?"It is just pvc pipe, you cut it with a pair of pvc clippers or a hacksaw or whatever kind of saw you have. You could cut pvc with just about anything including a serrated knife if you didn't mind taking the time to sit there and saw at it. Then simply use a pvc coupling and pvc cement to put it back together.

If you can't get thru this simple problem then you really don't need to be messing with the plumbing or gas lines.
