Ider, Arley (at Smith Lake), Danville were also hit by an EF2 tornado. I live very, very close to a siren that never went off. No warning anywhere.
There have been too many lives lost in this area to put up with this crap. What good is a warning system that fails when it's supposed to warn?
Everybody should start hollering!

That won't alarm if a tornado us ciming, especially in the middle of the night. That is what the NOAA radio is for. It's no good if a landline running the thing goes down even before the tornadoes fire up.

...and if the NOAA radios don't go off, as happened last week?

Everyone in the official warning channels indeed dropped the ball last week. Everyone ought to be furious about this, and we are all lucky no one got killed because of it.

Exactly.

Here's how it went for us.

1. Turn on satellite and watch the news. tornado possibly spotted near Monte Sano.
Rain picks up and knocks the dish out.

2. Switch to antenna TV.
Power begins going on and off. Have to cut power to the house to avoid frying electronics.

3. Switch to our phones.
Verizon phone and internet goes offline.

4. Dig out the NOAA radio.
Radio doesn't pick up anything.

5. Listen for tornado sirens to warn us.
No sirens.

6. Walk outside and listen. Hear what sounds like a train coming. Rain and wind cease suddenly.
Run for cover.

We had 5 possible solutions and they all failed at once. It was almost a perfect storm (non pun intended) and we are very lucky that no one out our way got killed because of it.

Portable radio. The local TV stations simulcast on local radio stations.
