Taking Job at Redstone Arsenal...Looking for House Under $200K Within 20-30 Minute Commute and, How Are Golf Courses?
Would like to get a relatively new brick home within a 20 to 30 of Redstone Arsenal for $200K or less. Will this be possible to do? Kids are out of high school, so schools are not a key factor for the neihborhood, as long as it's decent.
Also, how are the golf courses around Huntsville?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ron, you will not have a problem finding what you are looking for as far as housing.
As for golfing, I have only golfed at a few of the smaller courses and they were ok. The Arsenal has a nice course on it, as well as the Robert Trent Jones course in the Hampton Cove area is very nice as well.

Please check out Decatur for nice brick homes.
Golf options are fabulous! In addition to the ones mentioned by Mike, Point Mallard has a great one; Cedar Ridge in Decatur is a nice short course; Athens has a couple of good ones, Florence has another Robert Trent Jones course, Goose Pond in Scottsboro is another noted course, Chesley Oaks in Cullman, Valley Landing near Courtland, Deer Run in Moulton, Canebrake in Athens...and I'm not even a golfer (husband likes an occasional game)! All those are are close by, and don't include the ones in Huntsville.
Try these links:
Alabama Golf Courses | Public and Private
Alabama Golf: Alabama Bureau of Tourism & Travel
Golf South Magazine: Golf Course Reviews: North Alabama
There are a bunch more. Just google "Alabama golf" or "'North Alabama' golf."

Check out valleymls.com for houses for sale. You pick the area and the price.. Once you see something you like, ask here about the area so the good folks can give you advice.
What type of house are you looking for? Do you want close to shopping malls, restaurants, small towns, cookie cutter homes, old/new homes?
There are a lot of small towns along with Decatur and Huntsville that will work with the 20-30 min commute.

Adams Homes
If you are looking for a new house or spec house, check out Adams Homes - The Good Life Deserves A Great Home. Windsor Parke on Balch Rd in Madison is very nice 100% brick with side entry and most are in the $180K-200K. Balch is due to be repaved this summer and widened in 2012.

Adams does make a pretty good home. Balch is nice, just make sure you don't speed.

Good area for homes at a decent price would be East Limestone, or what is called "Madison in Limestone County," especially around the Mooresville Road area. It's less than 30 minutes to Redstone. There are are really great subdivisions, many choices of housing sizes, styles, and a lot more house for the $$ than in Huntsville. Quiet. Virtually no serious crime. Don't know much about golf, but prominent golf courses in the area I just mentioned include Canebrake and Southern Gayles (communities built around a golf course).

From what I see in real estate books, Canebrake and Southern Gayles have nice homes within the OP's price range.

Don't most of Southern Gayles homes have vinyl siding? I know that the one I looked at did.

There's a huge difference between "Madison in Limestone County" and E Limestone.
There is area annexed from Limestone County into the city of Madison...these will fall into search criteria for the city of Madison and their schools. So, you will pay comparable prices as the rest of the city of Madison. The big difference is that your taxes are still paid to Limestone County, and you use Athens Utilities. You also have car tagged in Limestone, which I have heard is cheaper than Madison Cty. These areas are going to be the west sides of County Line...but Madison has recently annexed 3000 new acres of "agriculture"...which will eventually be residential.
E Limestone is different schools (Limestone Cty) as well as different tax amounts (about half of what Madison City and Huntsville pay). Real estate market not quite as hot as the city areas, but it is a growth area. Market is completely flooded with new construction in the mid 100's up to about the mid 300s.
