I agree with Jake that the only viable place for a minor league baseball team is downtown. I think a park in the suburbs would do fine for a couple years but then be a total failure. The vast majority of the minor league stadiums I have seen thrive have been downtown. The team has to be viewed as a central part of city/metro identity, like the Barons, and you aren't going to foster that by putting a stadium in the suburbs.

Huntsville's downtown area doesn't compare to B'ham or even Chattanooga, it is tiny. Heck, put it near Research Park and the base.

Your view suffers from tunnel vision
downtown is designated as Governors to the south, Pratt to the north, Memorial Parkway to the west, and California to the east.
The point is mute as mentioned before anyway unless a truck (several) full of money shows up at City Hall.

Okay that makes sense... I just assumed it was that section east of Memorial to California. But you are right, won't happen down there.

I really don't consider all that downtown. Much of that is medical district and residential pockets. I don't consider east of Adams or Lincoln as downtown.

Nice to see some fellow Bulldog fans in here.

Birmingham really did get it right with Regions Field. And based on the number of kids there, I guarantee you a big part of the crowd is usually from over-the-mountain (i.e. suburbs). The draw is that there is stuff within walking distance for everyone - Railroad Park, Good People Brewery, numerous restaurants, etc. So I wouldn't necessarily try to put it in the most populous area. Find the best area that the stadium can grow into and spur development. If it's a good product, people will come.
