neighboorhoods where people don't walk around at night looking for things to steal just to sell and buy drugs, etc. Thanks for any information.

They are all over the place, really. It really depends on where you work, how long of a commute you want and schools as to what subdivision will fit you best. I hope a lot of the talk on here doesn't scare you about the Hsv area. IMO it is very safe. There is crime anywhere you live in one form or another, but Madison County as a whole has a ton of subdivisions that most people would consider very safe.

I agree with Mike. I have lived in a middle-class area of Huntsville (Five Points) for the past seven years. I have always felt safe. We have had a couple of incidents, but nothing like a Hollywood, summer-blockbuster moment. I guess it all depends on what you have grown up with. We have had homeless people knock on the door and panhandle. We've had a couple police chases in the neighborhood. We've had some minor thefts off of porches, but nothing with violence involved. Have you looked at Five Points, Blossomwood, Twickenham, Old Towne, Southeast Huntsville, Sherwood Park and Merrimack Mill (with apologies to Reactionary ;^)) I can't speak for Madison, due to my lack of experience.

I have lived in Huntsville (HamptonCove area) and now Harvest (just outside of Madison) for almost 5 years. I have never had one bad experience. I go out at night alone and do whatever, never a break in, never anything remotely scary...and I'm a chicken!!

I would say most of Madison is fairly safe - especially in the middle-class subdivisions. Not aware of any issues other than around some of the apartments. My wife and I have never feared break-ins or attacks or vandalism in our neighborhood - even walking alone at night is not an issue.

This is all really good information. We have just bought a home in a small subdivision in Harvest, at least it seems like a small subdivision. All homes and yards seem to be well kept. I also have been told if the subdivisions have sidewalks that is a plus.

I don't know how they calculate crime statistics but even the freakin' "projects" in downtown Huntsville look safe and sane to what I've seen in the Los Angeles area.
Move into middle-class areas and there are plenty of safe neighborhoods. I jog alone at night in mine. |

I 2nd that, I used to work in the worst areas in Chicago and I was shocked to see how well kept the "projects" are around here. Lawn furniture, cut yards, clothes hanging up on a line, no graffiti etc.

My son who grew up in Houston got a good laugh out of seeing the elaborate outdoor Christmas decorations put up at a project on University near Pkwy intersection.
