So they're already making fun of us, probably deservedly so. But with a team named the Redskins I'm not sure they have a lot of reason to feel superior ....

With Neil being a WaPo reporter/writer, I'm pretty sure he's a card carrying liberal and probably staunchly anti-Redskins as a team name, just saying!

I predict whatever the final name will be, there will be tremendous "blowback" (there already is), but eventually people will care less and less about what they are called and the new logo and merch will eventually end up being in the top 25 teams in MiLB with merch sold.

So they're talking about minor league baseball in Madison Alabama in the Washington Post? Maybe that is the intent of these silly names.

Did you actually read the article? It wasn't written by Greenberg nor did it in any way denigrate the name choices. It references the creativity of MiLB team names

They sorta did: "Whatever the name ends up being in North Alabama, it will surely make any list of craziest minor league franchise names."

It may have been good-natured fun-poking, but the article never would have been written had it not been for the choice of team names. Actually, I think the local media should be the critical ones. This is a technical town, and technical folks tend to have a strange sense of humor, and it usually doesn't include names like that.

In my opinion though, the Alburquque Isotopes and the El Paso one sound pretty good. Our choices just seem to be a little "red-necky", like the team owners don't seem to really know the local populace.

It just ends up being a sad reminder of the decline and fall of the Stars, which should never have happened.

It will be fine. Apparently stupid names are all the rage. Our Macon Bacon made ESPN https://youtu.be/BTmLm9Mdl6A and it has grown on me. It is still stupid, but our mascot is Kevin (Bacon) who wears number 6 degrees. Totally ridiculous but it has been fun. Our rivals are the Savannah Bananas and the winner of the series wins the "Golden Spork". Not kidding.

Whoever you end up with, just go with it. It will be stupid yet so ridiculous it's funny and it will make people smile. The world could use more goodhearted humor. Good luck!

^^^ Nope.

As RocketDawg said: "...technical folks tend to have a strange sense of humor, and it usually doesn't include names like that." One of the stupid names will just anger people (as it already has).
