This is basically what it comes down to...no matter how much we want to pretend that Madison & Huntsville is one city...it's not when it comes to tax revenue and local governments.

Because of the rare glow worms that inhabit Dismal Canyon. You can see them everywhere on the canyon walls at night.

I had no idea. Never heard of them. Interesting.

There's a lot of weird things in Dismals Canyon ... not the least of which are the hemlock trees. It has its own microclimate.

Yes, I agree. That name would be perfect. I wonder if it's too late to send it in?

I actually like that name better than any on the proposed list.

It is a name that makes sense. So obviously it will never be added.

Lets go Trash Pandas!

I'm coming to like that name. If it has to be something totally goofy, why no Trash Pandas? I'm gonna guess that about 0.01% of the populace here knows the genesis of that name, but it's beginning to sound OK.

And then there were five, looks like the "Final 5" names are:

Comet Jockeys

Moon Possums

Space Chimps

ThunderSharks

Trash Pandas

Voting is open from now until September 3rd (Labor Day), then they announce the "winner" Wednesday, September 5 at 6:00 pm.

I'm one of those who think "the fix" is already in and they actually work backwards from the name the team wants (or Brandiose wants) from the beginning and the votes are just for show, but whatever. If somehow, they already have an official logo unveiled less than 48 hours after voting ends, it would just prove my point even more.

Here's a video of the two guys from Brandiose at Google talking about their company and the process of designing logos and names back in June and they mention a few times that "they" pick the name. So for everyone who believes the public (either local or otherwise) really picked the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, New Orleans Baby Cakes and Hartford Yard Goats, I have a bridge to sell you in NY!
