my Husband And Our 2 Kids Will Be Moving To The Area In A Few Weeks, all Of These Areas In And Around Athens Sound Great. Are There Many Rental Houses In The Piney Hills Area??? It Sounds Really Nice. We Are Not Quite Ready To Buy A House, and Apartments Just Aren't Our Thing. We're Moving From Cordele Georgia And Any Feedback Will Be Helpful.......thanks!

Now wait a sec! I have lived in downtown Athens for 15 years, and I would MUCH rather live there than east of Lindsey Lane. But it depends on where you need to be. I walk to work (Athens State University). Most people who live near us, even if they move, stay in the neighborhood. (Beaty Historic District). Athens is a small town with all the good and bad that a small town has, but overall, I think that Athens has a lot to offer. We sold a 4,500 square foot 1906 house last year and looked at new and old houses...east Limestone, river property, north of Athens. We just couldn't imagine living anywhere else but downtown. So my opinion is: I recommend looking for housing in the Beaty District. (We ended up buying a smaller house in the same neighborhood and have NO regrets).

I think the downtown Athens area is pretty cool. Needs more restaurants, etc, but hopefully that will come.

Historic downtown Athens is nice... and it is very accessible to Madison as well. The 565/65 corridor is a plus. If I didn't have my daughter, I might have selected it for me and my DH.
