Default What hotels in safe areas to stay in at Huntsville?

Appreciate any by word of mouth suggestions on a safe area where you can stay while in Huntsville for a few days.

The Embassy and Holiday Inn downtown are both very nice, safe hotels, and central to everything. The Holiday Inn actually had surprisingly good rates when we stayed there.

I have stayed at the Homewood Suites at Providence Point. It is a little community with a couple of restaurants and some offices and new homes. I think it is around $125/night but you get free breakfast and dinner and free internet. I may try the Residence Inn on University on May 18-22 when we're out there.

I have also stayed at both the Hampton Inn near the airport and the one near Hooters on University. I like the airport location better.

Here is the best tool I know of for hotels. Tripadvisor: I use it a lot as I travel once every six to eight weeks (need a vacation from my four screaming kids....don't tell my wife...).

Madison Hotels: Read Madison Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor

Huntsville Hotels: Read Huntsville Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor

Oops, I forgot, the original poster specifically asked about safety. I haven't felt unsafe anywhere in Huntsville but I haven't been to too many places. The hotels I mentioned are fine.

The new Westin at Bridgestreet is scheduled to open some time in mid April. Not sure when you are travelling, but I'm sure it will be fabulous!

All of the above, plus anything named Marriott.

Almost all hotels in HSV are safe, but I would stay away from hotels on the Parkway (except Radisson) or on University between the Parkway and Sparkman, because they're not as nice (transients, drugs, prostitutes).

For some odd reason the Marriott itself (and the Embassy Suites and probably the Hilton) does not provide free internet like their one notch down associates: Homewood Suites, Residence Inn, Courtyard, Hampton Inn, etc.

In my hierarchy of needs it's: high speed internet, air, water, food, shelter, ....
