Yes there is a "Pump it Up" and in Madison "Jump Zone". There are also great outdoor playgrounds in SE Hsv, "Kids Space" and in Madison at "Dublin Park". Early Works Museum in downtown Hsv is great. There is so much to do for kids of all ages from very, very small. I heard there is a new place called Matrix in Hsv. It is mainly gymnastics, but also has a fitness center, giant foam pit etc... Don't know too much about it yet, but I heard it is magnificent and they brought in some of the best trainers/coaches from around the country.

The Hartselle Farmer's Market opens May 1st but farmers are allowed to set up earlier if they have anything to sell. (It's a dedicated space.) There's one guy that always has tomatoes and cukes and squash early since he has a greenhouse.
That's too far for you, though! The other markets all open in June, I think.
There are farmer's markets in Hartselle, Decatur, old town Madison and no doubt other spots. If you are going to be out Madison way, you may want to stop by Isom's Orchard off Hwy 72 -- strawberry season is in full swing and they are getting produce from Florida now, I think. If you are down towards Decatur, there is a roadside market near 565 and 67 which is open year round and sources things as locally as possible but throughout the South as needed. Not cheaper, generally, but a good source for local honey and locally produced jams and such.
Which reminds me, I need to break open that jar of sweet potato butter I bought...
As summer kicks in you'll see folks selling by the side of the road out of trucks and trailers. For the most part, you can get some very good quality ripe produce for very cheap from these folks, and they are usually worth at least a quick look if you have the time.

There is a small farmer's market in G'ville that is open until 12 on Saturdays.
There is also a place on 69 on GA Mountain going towards g'ville where you can pick strawberries. I have also seen a place where you can pick blueberries on 231/79 near Blountsville (I think)

cglover - "smile and wave boys, smile and wave".
IMO the penguins stole the show in Madagascar. It's one of my favorite movies - I've seen it waaay too many times and still like it. The DVD contained a short with the penguins vs Mr. Chew - very entertaining.
Back on topic - the Madison County Farmer's Market is on Cook Avenue (on the Parkway just north of University). Across the street is the County Extension Office (check inside for gardening pamphlets). Note that 'Mr. Barbeque' is also on Cook, and serves great BBQ for lunch.

Thanks for info reactionary--i'm writing it down and bringing with me to our closing--we are officially homeowners again on the 30th... let's pray they get my cooktop issues resolved. Honestly--i can't believe how much trouble i've had with that one item vs all the other bigger ones that seemed easy to fix in comparison!
builders--ah well--in a month, we will be looking back at this stress and laughing!

Writing about the Farmer's Market prompted me to head down there. Thomas and Ayers are at each end. Lots of plants for sale in the parking lot (at pretty good prices).
I got some tasty tomatoes and a small 35 cent head of lettuce.
