Default Sick in Alabama

Hello,
I recently moved here with my husband without a choice in the matter. I am misserable and sick. I have horrid allergies as well as a weakend immune system to begin with from Cancer to other issues.. The last place I want to be is here where now I have massive allergy and asthma problems happening.

My husband and I and our children ( ALL of which have really bad allergy and asthma issues like me) are from Alaska and he was on lay off with Boeing... We received a transfer to this location within Boeing .

I am glad that we have an income still, but to be honest I am very upset about all of it. My husband promised that he would take a transfer out of here after a years time if not sooner if he can.

Otherwise we will take a better offer if he gets one first.... He has had many calls in the last week on other companies showing interest back out west ( specifically California ) so I am hoping we hear something soon.

I think I just needed to vent a little on here.... Does anyone know if Boeing offers a Special Circumstance type of transfer for cases like this?

Thanks for listening.

Boeing might know. Did you ask them? What did they say?

This is the worst season for allergies and the oak pollen has been pretty intense this spring. I have no allergies at all but even my eyes and sinuses have been dry and scratchy and runny at the same time from all the irritation. So I am sure folks sensitive to oak pollen are very unhappy.

You may get some relief soon. The pollen levels have already dropped a lot -- if we get some rain this weekend that will help you, too. There will be stuff blooming on and off until after frost, but this is the worst of it.

Actually, last year was a lot worse than this. Snowflower needs either a transfer or divorce, bless her heart.

I'm sorry you are going through this. We just moved here two weeks ago, and all of us have been suffering from horrible allergies. I was born and raised in the South and never was bothered with allergies like this before. When I asked a Dr. about this last week, he said that if you live in an area from the time you are young, your immune system gets use to the allergens gradually and you become immune to them. If you move away for any length of time you lose that immunity, so you are more affected by the allergens when you are exposed to them once again. I'm considering going for shots for this because it's making my life miserable right now.

I was born and raised in AL, but also due to employment moved away for 35 years. I have never had allergy problems until I moved back up here, although mine are not too bad, and so far after 2 years here, seems to be better this year.

I know this my not happen to you, but hopefully, you will start to feel better once spring is over.

Snowflower, I am a native of Kentucky. When I moved to Huntsville, I was always subjected to, what I thought at the time, "sinus infections". When I would go out of town and return to Huntsville, I would become really sick for a few days.

I eventually saw an Allergist and she recommended that I take Allegra D and a nasal steiroid for my symptoms. That solution worked for a while, until my blood pressure became elevated.

I have an allergy to pine pollen. Imagine my joy! I do know that you can take shots for this allergy. You could also take an over-the-counter version of Claritin and see if it helps you some.

Good luck to you!

I'm from Maryland/DC area and used to get sinus infections every spring. Oddly enough, I moved to Meridian Mississippi (and various other places in MS) and had been sinus infection free for the whole 8 years I lived there.

I moved back up to DC and the first spring I was here, my old friend the sinus infection is back. Now, I'm back to having a sinus infection every spring. lol

When I moved from Opp, Alabama to Mobile, I kept a sinus infection for about 8 months. I am 140 miles from back home. I use to get them occasionaly, but then I got here and kept one. I ended up having sinus surgery almost a year after moving here. I rarely have the infections anymore. Just stuffy and sneezing. But I believe I am just prone to the problem, no matter where I am.

eh...what I thought was allergies in my earlier post turned out to be strep throat. Our entire family had it this weekend. The clinic said they saw 9 cases on Friday, alone.
