While I'm sure that's a helpful suggestion, there are always new members coming to the board that might provide additional insight. So, it's never a bad thing to post a question, Charles

Regardless of where you land--be warned--getting DLs and Vehicle Tags/registration here is worse than going through airport security.

Speaking of car tags, I have to renew mine this month. I was shocked at the high amount. Does anyone know how they calculate the "tax" amount?

I'm going to go try take care of this today--I'll ask when I'm there--this is the SECOND time I've gone out to do this--my husband was on the title with my name and we both have to go together--that would have been nice to know BEFORE I went downtown to deal with this situation.

Not sure if it applies to any of you, but just for general information, if you are military, you can get your registration and license on Post...much less hassle.

We got my tags and DL on Redstone. It was a breeze. We went a bit early about 15 minutes before they opened and were done with tags for 2 vehicles and mine and my husbands DL in about an hour or so. If you have access to Redstone I would recommend going there. It is between the PX and commissary.I believe they have specific days for DL. I think we went on a Wed. or Thursday around 1:00pm.

I don't know if I was allowed, but my DH is on site so he'll get his DL there tomorrow. We managed to get tags going and registered today at Southern Markets.
Another thing ticked off the moving list LOL

Okay, someone needs to explain the registration process to me. It's in the grocery store? We haven't even started the whol DL/registration process. In Illinois you wanted to avoid the DMV like the plague but at least once you stood in line for the licence you just went down to the next counter and got registration.
In Savannah you got the DL in one building and it was very organized and set up very well. The registration was in another building and the line went quick and it was an easy process. I was very impressed by their system.
One thing I found confusing about getting tags renewed is that the expiration date went by the birthday of the first person on the tag. In Illinois your tags expired at the end of the month you registered the car the previous year. If you registered in May your tags expired at the end of May. In Sav. one car's tags expired 2/25 and the other 5/21. It wouldn't be so bad if they just expired at the end of the month.
How is it done here?
