Default Finding a home (and Hunter Homes)

I was considering a Hunter Home purchase, because the price and size were great. However, I've heard both good and bad things and would appreciate it if anyone with experience would send a message to me.

Also, does anyone have recommendations for home builders? This is my first home and I don't know which are good or not-so-good. Cost is a very important factor, and I'd prefer to be in the "cleaner" parts of the city or outer small towns.

While having a house built for you has a certain cache, if money is a factor I would strongly suggest a resale home in this area; you get a lot more bang for your buck than a newer home. Brand new homes also often have issues which take a year or two to shake out and get taken care of, the pain of which someone else has already taken on. If a particular neighborhood was poorly built, talking to the neighbors before you buy will reveal any lurking issues. And you know what you are getting better in terms of a neighborhood and neighbors. Home warranties are available on any home.

Plus you get to avoid construction noise, traffic and trash while the rest of the subdivision is built out.

If you do decide you want a new home, in your budgeting you need to mentally set aside quite a bit of money for upgrades over the base price of a budget house.

I would like to second what Nicole said about purchasing a resale rather than new construction. I do NOT have a house for sale and hope to live in my present home for at least 10 more years! However, the advantages of a resale in an established neighborhood are numerous -- established yard, in many cases larger lot size, window treatments, fencing, knowledge of the development of surrounding area and neighborhood character, etc.

If you tell us what your price range is and the area you are interested in maybe someone can help you out.

I have to agree with the others in many respects, although I know some ppl want a new home and don't mind some of the drawbacks.

If you look at the bottom of this page you will see other threads regarding Hunter Homes, maybe they will help you
