Am in the process of clearing my wooded lot of overgrowth and despite hat, rose gloves, L/S shirt, BDUs tucked in to Wellies with knee-high socks...I found a Texas tick between my toes when it came time to shower off the clay.

Already familiar (lived in Georgia out in the middle of nowhere, ticks were a constant) but did not expect to find this guy there...have a special v-shaped 'remover' which gently encourages (tongue-in-cheek) the tick to release without dismemberment, and it works well with a steady hand...the old tricks of globbing petroleum or warming with matches are now considered risky as they could still promote infection/spread of disease...well, that's how the handy little pamphlet reads.

bbfan is on a distinguished road
My brother had LD from a tick that burrowed in his belly button while camping in Maine. It was really a disgusting and horrific disease, he seriously looked like he was going to kick the bucket at any moment. He did nothing but sleep for at least a week, didn't have strength to eat, or barely move. It took many weeks for him to get back to normal.
