What is the fine for this Huntsville city noise ordinance?
Sec. 12-297. Sound amplification systems. (a) No person shall operate or cause to be operated any sound amplification system, either in a motor vehicle or separate from a vehicle, on any public premises so as to produce an audible sound measured at least 25 feet from the system. Measurement of the audible sound shall be by the auditory senses, based upon direct line of sight. (b) This section shall make no distinction between stopped, standing, parked or moving motor vehicles. (c) Possession by a person of the sound amplification system in subsection (a) of this section shall be prima facie evidence that the person operated the system. (d) Exemptions (1), (2), (3), (6) and (8) of section 12-262 shall apply to this section. (Ord. No. 86-297, § 4.1.5, 5-8-1986; Ord. No. 93-312, § 4, 5-27-1993; Ord. No. 94-100, § 4.1.5, 2-10-1994) |

Has anybody ever actually been stopped, let alone fined, for this? I used to hear 100-decibel thumpathumpaBOOMwumpawumpa crap all the time; cops didn't seem to care. I kept adding "RPGs" to my Christmas wish list, but no dice.

Yes matter of fact I know somebody that was stopped the other day thats why I ask, it was a factory system so its not like it was thumping and the fine was downtown close to crossroads music hall. The fine is like $230

WOW. So Huntsville PD will stop somebody for that. Frankly, I'm amazed. I figured if you could tailgate like you were trying to make an all-car prison movie, HPD didn't care about your stereo noise either. (I'm using the editorial "you" here.)

Oooooh, how I hope the law is pro-active about this subject matter...that was one of the reasons, I kid you not, that we left Florida. You simply could not escape the BOOM-BOOM-BOOM (rattle, rattle, rattle...hey, TIP, that car is trembling to pieces and you're going deaf).
Everywhere, BOOM, no community was safe. 'Even passed such an ordinance, but I was never witness to it being enforced. (Funny, 'cause WOW, think of the consistent revenue!) |

To the OP.. I would think there has to be some decimal rating for a fine. You might try calling the PD or a city councilman or the mayor.

My son received a sound ordinance ticket. I believe it was around $200.

Are barking dogs in the ordinance?
We have three neighbors behind us with dogs. One keeps his dog outside until 10:30 a night. The cur never stops barking. BARKABARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARKBARK. Sometimes they go out of town and forget to bring the dog in, and it barks all night. The second and third neighbors delight in letting their dogs (they have two each) out in the yard at 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., respectively. So it's YIPBARRKBARKWOOFYIPPHOWL with the precision of a Swiss watch. Personally, I feel those Mongoloids need to get more than a ticket from the local police department. Nothing short of summary execution will do. Then shoot the dogs. Better yet, gas them. |

cpg - HSV has a dog ordinance. Code 208 - "Maintaining a Nuisance Animal" brings a fine of $25 first offense, $50 second offense, then $100 third and subsequent offense (plus Court costs). Not quite as satisfactory as shooting the owners, but it doesn't take too long to get rid of a barking dog (but the dog neighbors won't like you - the City usually tells who complained, but then they were bad neighbors anyway).
