Looking for a great OB/GYN
Hi,
My husband and I have just relocated to the area (Huntsville), due to his job. I am 32 weeks pregnant with our first child and am looking for a good Ob/Gyn who delivers at Huntsville Hospital. Yesterday I had an appointment with a dr. here in town and wasn't very impressed. I am pretty disappointed and discouraged, as I really had a lot of confidence and trust in my former doctor in Nashville.
I'm looking for a doctor who I can trust with the care of myself and my baby, but also is personable and will take time to address my concerns as a new mother.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Obviously, I want to get settled in with a doctor ASAP.
Thanks so much!

I already had my children when we moved here, and my obs were great! However, for myself I have been seeing Dr.Delisle at the Clinic for Women for the past 4-5 years. He is very personable, always spends as much time as I need with him to answer questions, etc... and his support staff is great. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

I have not delivered any children since moving to Huntsville, but since I might have a third child, I saw Dr. Michael Conrad for my annual at the recommendation of several friends. I really liked him a lot - he was extremely personable, patient, and took a lot of time with me to answer my questions, etc. Having been through this twice he's who I plan to see of I get pregnant again.
Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, Huntsville, AL, Welcome
He delivers at Huntsville Hospital or Crestwood.
I will say I *did* have to wait a ridiculous 2 hours in the waiting room, but unfortunately that goes with the territory of OB-GYNs. As soon as I'm 100% sure I'm done with babymaking, I will switch to a doctor that does not do obstetrics. He was very apologetic and claimed that it was an unusual circumstance.
It also depends on what you want. He's definitely more of a "medical" guy as opposed to one you could count on to be extremely supportive/encouraging of someone wanting a drug-free, intervention-free birth. With my first pregnancy, that would have been an issue with me (my first child was actually delivered by a midwife). But, given the circumstances of my personal health situation, Dr. Conrad seems great for me because I will have to have a scheduled c-section if I get pregnant again.
I might also suggest that since you are new to the area, (I'm guessing you aren't working right now?) you get in contact with your local chapter of the MOMS Club (there are 2 chapters in Huntsville and at least 1 in Madison). Being a new mom can be very isolating and giving birth can put you emotionally on edge, and having a group of moms to go to, scheduled activities you and your baby can go to, etc, can be an invaluable lifeline. If you want to send me a direct message with where you live I can give you contact info for the closest chapter.

Have you considered a midwife? My wife and I used one with the birth of our last child 2 months ago. I would definity recommend her. You'll learn more about your pregnancy and the health of your baby with a midwife vs. a OB/GYN. Your husband will appreciate too as she will be with you as you go through labor pains. It got me off the hook.
Email me if you are interested and I will pass your info to my wife.

You might ask your Nashville doctor to recommend someone in Huntsville.

Boomer, interesting. I had heard from several sources midwives are not legally permitted to deliver babies in Alabama. Did you go to Tennessee?
If there is a legal method to do so, I too find midwife care to be superior. I saw a midwife for my first pregnancy, and a midwife delivered my first baby (though in a hospital, due to my situation.) But.. that was California.

Dr. DeLisle is a great doctor, very nice, and nice to look at! It helps!! When I was pregnant though, I didn't want to be shuffled among 6 doctors so I moved to Dr. Dejarnette. Wonderful man, kind, and caring. Great listener. He was also responsible for not dismissing my concerns and insisting I see a specialist about a lump in my breast when breast feeding that turned out to be cancerous.
