I asked the lady on the phone the same thing....and she basically told me they'd contact us in 5-7 days. She said something about each doctor is different and each one decides whether or not to take new patients. I think I read on their web page that a new doctor will be joining them in August 2009 and she will be taking new patients.
Sure, DM me with anything that can be of help. Right now we're just taking our kids to the clinic near Publix on 431 and Sutton.

WOW, I better start my search now.
Quin sees a pediatric neurologist, pulmonologist, cardiologist, physical medicine MD(within the pt dept-I never bothered to figure out their exact title), and an orthopedic surgeon.
Does anyone know if such specialists are readily available or do they also have long wait times and full patient lists?
Do certain pedi's have a better time getting children in? In TX we had a specialist as a regular pedi(but that isn't needed any longer) that was able to get us in to see specialists faster and the better specialists. I never even thought of it as an issue.

From the above posts it sounds like people are having better luck in Madison.
Also, you may just have to do what I did and get a list of doctors from you insurance company and just start calling one by one.

What about family doctors?
Back home we used a general practitioner for both kids from birth. Although he was not a board-certified pediatrician, it was clear from the decor and the patients in his waiting room that he mostly sees children. I also liked that our dr has children about my kids' ages. That way, I could ask him, "If this was YOUR child, how would you proceed?" and reasonably trust his answer more than I would someone whose child-rearing days were in the distant past. We are going to try to find someone similar here. For 99% of health issues that children are likely to face, anyone with a medical degree is qualified to treat them. To me it is more about whether we can establish a level of mutual trust, than how much extra training they have had in pediatrics.
So, anyone know of a good family-type physician?

We were here almost 6 months before we found a pediatrician. My wife and I STILL haven't found a family practitioner accepting patients.

I don't know where you live (your profile isn't populated) but we hooked up with a new young doctor on Balmoral just north of Airport, Dr. Garrard. He is family practice which I use and the rest of our family uses until we find a pediatrician.

Huntsville Pediatric Associates does have a new physician coming on board this summer and she will be accepting new patients. To the individuals that have requested records, records are promptly sent if the parents have no outstanding balance on their account. Records are generally received by the new physician IF the parents provide the correct mailing address (you would be amazed at how often they don't). The physicians at Huntsville Pediatrics do care immensely for their patients. They are open 364 days a year (weekends on an emergency basis). If a parent needs to speak with an advice nurse, EVERY call is returned before nurses go home (sometimes nurses are there until 9 p.m. to make sure all parents receive answers or advice). Yes, you do often have to be on hold to speak with the phone operators in the office, but you must realize as a parent that Huntsville Pediatrics has thousands of patients. Any parent that feels they have been mistreated can discuss their concerns with the office administrator, who also promptly returns calls. Ultimately, having a good experience with any pediatrician office comes down to parent and pediatrician cooperation.

We've applied twice to Huntsville Pediatrics via their online application tool. I called the office and was told we would be contacted with results from our application within 5 to 7 days.
They never got back to us for either application.
