We enjoy shooting fireworks on NY Eve and July 4. We are smack in Decatur, near Point Mallard. We go out in the street to shoot them - there is a common area across from us so it's a bit open here.
The police have driven by as we are shooting them and didn't stop us. They could see that the teen-agers had adult supervision - heck, the adults were doing most of it.
They didn't even slow down!
I think they give some latitude there.
But if you're still cautious, zennjenn, observe this year, and then indulge next year!

I guess you can call me an official Guntersville spokesperson, but the population there triples or more every fourth when people from all over the area go to see their show. I've missed it since I moved away. They shoot the fireworks from a barge out on the lake. It makes for a great show over water. Many people take their boats out on the lake the night of the fireworks for a better perspective.
