No, we haven't but let us know what you think. That sounds like something we can do with guests who have younger children.

I'm hitting a local farmer's market today. Can't wait.

We called the railroad this morning and it was sold out.

We went to the Botanical Garden instead. Great place for kids.

We ended up buying a season pass. From the street (Wallace) the place doesn't look like much but once you get inside you find a clean, well maintained, spacious, comfortable environment. We had five kids with us and we hit maybe 1/3 of the place. Today was a fishing derby (my four year old hooked but didn't land a 16 inch fish and won first prize), and children activities.

The butterfly house is great for kids as you can put this butterfly guck on your hands and the butterflies will land on you and you can hold them.

There's also a few water rock fountain spray places for kids to cool off.

We loved the Botanical Gardens as well--just a great day to go yesterday. No humidity!

I want to do that! Why is it called Big Spring Jam if it happens in the fall?

Held at Big Spring Park.

Lots of information on the internet:

"The region’s premiere music festival celebrates its 16th anniversary as it returns September 26th – 28th to Big Spring International Park in downtown Huntsville."

This is a good place to go on a cloudy day like today. The Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, AL. It's a pretty, scenic, easy 45 minute drive east of Huntsville. We brought five kids and that sort of made it a waste because as an adult you would need time to check things out - tough to do with kids getting into everything.

Unclaimed Baggage Center

Some stuff is a ripoff; Ipods for example were no cheaper than Walmart. Wireless routers, hand held GPS, laptops, other eletronics - no deals there. But there are exceptions - I bought a Sony Digital8 camcorder with all the accessories for $50. A webcam for $4. Bose noise canceling headphones $150.
