That's tiny compared to the Cecropia or Polyphemus moths you'll see around here. They are all Saturniids - giant silk moths.

Thinking this is the thing I saw the other day.
At my place in franklin county by. It was on our truck tire
Early morning. Bf thought it was a leaf and tried to get off but it flew
Away onto the ground. Bright green and about. 4-5 inches
Across, but from what I been reading they are only seen
At night? Saw this at 6 am and once it flew away from our tire it just layed
There flat on the ground unless you tried to touch it

Back in the '90s when I was still coaching high school baseball, we saw a (flock? mess? gaggle?) bunch of them at the Johnson High School field, or where ever we were playing. When I first saw them I thought for a moment they were bats. One landed on my hat...and stayed there while I took it off and some of us looked at it in the dugout.

It was really cool, and I think the only time I've seen one.
