Hello, as i am a 17 year old girl. I figured my advice might help. I just moved 2 weeks ago from that area and i lived there for 16 and a half years, i know alot about the schools there. You want to avoid Butler High. Not a great school and crime is high. The best school in the area is Grissom. Highest test scores and no they do not push kids aside. They treat everyone the same and offer alot of extra things to keep the kid busy outside of school.

The 2 main ones you want to avoid are:
Butler High School
Lee High School

These 2 schools are high in violence especially Butler. Hope this helps. If you need more info feel free to message me.

Btw, Madison County High is not actually in Madison. Everybody just thinks it is. Its actually in Gurley, its not even close to Madison.

I don't. Madison County High could've been anywhere in Madison County (as the name suggests). They found a suitable vacant lot in Gurley - which is Madison County.
Nobody thinks the high school is Madison City High, and thus located in MAdison City. But everybody knows that at this time there's only one high school in Madison city - Bob Jones

Oh come on now... Going to a "violent" school like Butler builds character. And I's got character out the wazoo!

Bob Jones played Butler last night at Bob Jones. We all felt so sorry for the poor kids that played from Butler. NO parental support in the stands and only 13 kids from their band were there. It really was sad. I feel badly for those kids.
When Bob Jones has an away game, we fill up the stands. Makes the kids feel like the parents care.

Final score (as if salt were needed to rub):

Bob Jones (10-1) 56
Butler (0-10) 0

Yeah, things have changed greatly over the years. My senior year at BHS (90-91), we were 6A and BJHS was 5A. We played BJHS for homecoming because they were an easy win. We beat them 40-0 at Joe Davis Stadium in front of a packed house as I recall. I probably ran for 100+ yards in that game. As Bruce Springsteen once sang, "Glory days..."

I asked in an earlier thread, what the student body size of Butler was in the 1980s or so. It was much greater than today and, from the post above, produced more powerful athletic teams (though I've heard Butler's basketball team is still pretty good).

What do you (and the forum) think the main reasons are for Butler's (and Lee and Johnson????) student body decline? Is it demographic, meaning there are a lot less high school aged kids in those schools' zones? Is it school choice, meaning kids from those zones have opted to attend out of zone schools like Huntsville and Grissom? Private schools? Something else?
Does the federal desegregation order exacerbate this unevenness?
