Default Comcast in Huntsville, 2009 transition

Anyone know if a subscriber to Comcast in Huntsville will be able to continue to use cable ready TVs (just plug in the cable to the back of the TV) without any sort of converter boxes after the feb 2009 transition? Not interested in all the fancy channels; Local, CNN, ESPN, History, etc. are fine with me...I think they call it expanded basic.

I did some research and it seems Comcast is handling things differently in different cities. I want to know if anyone has a feel for Comcast's plans for Huntsville. (I'd call them but I'd rather wait three days for a City Data reply than ten minutes of listening to Comcast BS while on hold then talk to someone who asks me 70 personal questions before they address my question - which usually results in a transfer to second level person, and another ten minutes on hold.....vent....)

I hate DirecTV: too slow to change channels, got to use a box, I just like plain old fashioned analog cable.

Any reason I wouldn't be to use those 3db splitters to route add branch lines?

I don't know much about this stuff but we had Comcast in Savannah and have Knology here in Madison. I don't know what Comcast is charging here but in Savannah we were paying $60.00/month for basic cable and here with Knology we are paying $69.00/month for expanded basic and internet. Knology has some channels that I have always wanted that I now have with Knology-girl channels that wouldn't interest you-oxygen, lifetime movies, WE etc.

Do you need a box with knology? Or, can you simply plug the cable into the back of your TV? Will you need a box after the transition? Can you use a splitter?

If you have cable, you will not need any new boxes due to the digital transition. Mostly only those getting TV with old fashioned rabbit ear antennas will need the converter boxes the feds are giving coupons for - or they could sign up for cable. Charles, last I checked, Knology did not yet provide service on our side of the mountain. Our only choice has been Comcast.

It may be different over in the main Hampton Cove area, I'm not sure.

I thought the converter boxes were strictly for completely analog televisions still using an antenna with no cable service. If you have a cable service at all I didn't think you needed a converter box.

Knology cable just plugs into the tv. The box converter is for non cable users.
