Went to Hyun Korean restaurant on Memorial parkway about a mile south of Airport. It's in a nice little shopping mall. Unfortunately we ordered the buffet (around $9, all you can eat). I was suspicious of a buffet service for a Saturday night dinner and my suspicions were correct. The food was healthy and the variety was good. It seemed like Korean food, maybe four Kimchi dishes. But overall it was kind of not fresh tasting as if it was still left over from the lunch buffet. Had an "institutional" character to it. Almost reminded me if what is served at a Korean dorm or high school cafeteria or something.
Hyun's Korean Restaurant
Now, I would consider going there again but I would go for the BBQ on your own table thing, which they had and those were around $15 each.
While the restaurant is clean, new, and brightly lit, there didn't seem to be any "feel" to the place, no ambiance.
And, other than my wife and me, there were maybe two other small groups of four (though they all looked Korean) - not crowded - normally not a good sign for a restaurant on a Saturday night. Maybe they make all their money from the Redstone noon feedings.

I remembered the suggestion made on this forum to eat seafood there, so we decided to try it. We also saw other places called Top of the River and Whetzel's Oyster House. Are those any good?
Looks like Guntersville definitely isn't lacking in seafood places and definitely not that bad of a drive from HSV. Thanks again for your suggestion

Hi,
Top of the River and Wintzells are good. I liked the fried oysters (Wintzells is famous for their oysters) at Wintzells. Part of the restaurant has a view of the lake; otherwise, reminds me of Applebee's or a Chili's decor. Top of the River has great catfish. I also really liked the side order of greens, really tasty. Good service, and you overlook the lake.

I disagree. With so many active and retired military in the area, this would go over extremely well. What I would give for a good kabob!

I found out over on another site that they are putting a Whetzel's in Tuscaloosa, which is where I'm originally from. I've mentioned them to a few of my friends back home. Nice to know I'll have one back home and then the one in Guntersville for options. So both places overview the lake? I couldn't figure out where TOTR was, but we saw Whetzel's from 431.

Not sure how many military folks get to go out of compounds and wonder the streets of Baghdad market place and say ... mmmmm... now that's a good kabob !!! But I would love to have a good middle eastern restaurant here in HSV, and not a fast food type of place neither.

Hopefully, as more of us from the coasts (VA and CA) move here and bring our wants (ethnic food) with us, the demand will be sufficient to support more diverse restaurants.

Slightly related, I lady I work with is a long time Huntsville, Redstone, government employee. She told me Redstone will be building all sorts of restaurants inside the gates. Anyone know of this? This is over and beyond the big work-related (VBIII for example) construction.

^I don't know about "inside the gates," but there is a development proposed on land just outside Gate 9 (Research Park Blvd.) that will include restaurants, hotels, a little bit of retail, and a whole lot (2-4 million sq. ft.) of office space.
