Lots say Ding How, but I really didn't like it at all. In fact, we had a large party of family visiting (there were 9 of us total) and none really liked it.
Birmingham has some great Chinese restaurants...my all time fav was Joy Young. Maybe that is what is wrong, I just can't find anything that will stand up to Joy Young!

They were doing real good business and the sushi was excellent. They have hibachi grills for the non sushi eatters and all tables were full. Also enjoyed Surin of Madison --really good food and a beautiful place.
Now on the down side -- we went to Hidegarde's and were totally disappointed - will never go back. My dil is german background and we haven't had any luck with finding good German food in Huntsville.

I have to concur on the German....
we lived there and got very spoiled to the food. Just can't find anything here that is good. We have been to all, except Schnitzel Ranch...just the name makes me cringe! I just can't bring myself to go there...I heard from a friend it was not great.

This is very puzzling to me. I can't seem to find a GOOD chinese restaurant in town. Usually for a town size like Huntsville/ Madison, you will have at least 3 GOOD chinese restaurants, one specialize in cantonese, one in madarin, and one in szechuan. Coming from LA/OC area where we enjoy the best of the best chinese food (yes, even better than NYC & San Fran chinatowns), this is really agonizing.
So far, I am afraid to report that the most authentic chinese restaurant we've been to in Huntsville/ Madison area is the P.F. Chang's

We ate there for the second time today with my visiting in-laws from Birmingham. It definitely has more variety and things I haven't seen on a buffet before. I would recommend it to others and I'm a PF Chang's person myself...LOL!!!!

As far as German food, I've never lived anywhere where I've had access to German places, never been to Germany, and only tried German food since I've met my hubby. This being said, we like Ol Heidelberg's and I'm guess glad that we haven't tried Schnitzel Ranch yet. I heard it was a German fast food place. Where is Hildegard's?

It's on Whitesburg drive a bit south of downtown. I have never eaten there, just driven by. I'm an Ol' Heidelberger myself.

It's called China Buffet I believe. It's just after the KFC, same side of the road before you get to Old Time Pottery.

Having went to college in Wisconsin (big german-heritage immigrants population), I consider myself a semi-expert on bratwurst and any other cooking involve beer Ol Heidelberg was good but I am STILL looking for a "WOW!".
