Jordan Lane has the only ethnic restaurants I know of. At least hole in the wall or independently operated it seems. There's a Korean place and Indian Place and I think a German place. May be because of the college students around there. Not that familiar with Madison.

Went to lunch at the new Greek place at Airport and Whitesburg last week - Taziki's. It's pretty good, worth checking out for lunch. It's a low-key place where you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The gyro plate I had was good and my friend enjoyed a fish sandwich of some kind. The side dishes were good with fresh ingredients.

Try their "Pho" (rice noodle soup with choices of beef flank, tripes, etc.), it's good. I am just not used to the local prices yet, $9 here vs. $6 in Little Saigon for the same dish. There's also a Vietnamese grocery store in the same area. I went in there one Wednesday evening afterwork and the place was crowded with Asian women. It's like a happy-hour gathering place for asian wives....

That place is fairly new right? I need to head out that way and try it. I love Vietnamese food.

Jordan Lane has the highest concentration, I think cheap rent probably has a little to do with it as well as UAH. Plus it is right off the base and a lot of the Army guys seem to love the buffets at the ethnic places. I think the best Indian in town is Spice of India in Madison. It is in a strange location, the hotel restaurant at the Country Inn and Hearth. However, the restaurant is pretty nice and I think the food is great.

I think so. I was there last month and they had a "new opening" sign.

We went to the new Vietnamese place in Madison over the weekend and REALLY liked it. I had the House special Clay Pot and it was great. My son who lived in Portland OR and was a big fan of Viet and other asian food said it was a definite keeper. We also had sushi at the new Japanese restaurant on County Line (by Publix). They were doing real good business and the sushi was excellent. They have hibachi grills for the non sushi eatters and all tables were full. Also enjoyed Surin of Madison --really good food and a beautiful place.
Now on the down side -- we went to Hidegarde's and were totally disappointed - will never go back. My dil is german background and we haven't had any luck with finding good German food in Huntsville.

My dil and I had Rahm Schnitzel - the veal was tough and sauce mediocre at best. I also had spaetzle which was dry except for a glob of brown gravy on top. DIL had cabbage - don't know about that. Son had another variety of Schnitzel which he was also not impressed with. The only thing good was the cucumber salad with creamy dressing. We went there specifically because we had liked the German resturant (Biergarden) that used to be in Madison and Hildegarde's website said they were same owner. We were really looking forward to it and were totally disappointed! I had taken several sets of out-of-town company to Biergarden when it was open in Madison and everyone had loved it.
