That story is a crock! I moved to Huntsville from SoCal to get my two daughters away from the drugs and gangs but didn't find the peace of mind I was looking for so I moved to Marshall county up on Brindlee Mountain and I love it here! Ive have ZERO problems, no theft and none of the crap CA or Huntsville has.
We are 20 minutes from Huntsville (a suburb to us)
Im not saying drugs aren't here Im sure they are everywhere but to no degree that even raises the slightest concern for me.
Id also like to mention I moved to Arab for the school system for my daughters and wasn't disappointed! It might not be as great for minority's though as the schools here are not racially mixed. Im not being racist just posting what the area consists of.
I design and build homes and have been a contractor in CA and Alabama, there are some VERY nice homes and neighborhoods in this area that Ive been developing. Allot of my work is in the faster growing areas of Madison County but I still prefer a quieter country setting.

Drugs in Arab
Anyone who lives in Arab and thinks drugs are a new problem is crazy. We were in the military and in the late 70's my parents moved to Arab. After living all over the place and seeing drug use I was not surprised about Arab. What did surprise me were the ones who used blantent disreguard for the law. They did not care who knew because they new if they got caught their parents would buy them out or the cops who were very crooked would make a deal and let them go. The drugs were not meth then but they were just as bad I'm not talking about pot either. It was so bad that as a married adult I took my kids and got the hell out. Its to bad because Arab is in a nice area, Its the peoples fault, until they take their town back and get rid of all the crooked law and stay on top of thier kids and get rid of the criminal element it will only get worse. A lot of the problem sadly comes in with the hispanic population, Just look whats going on in the border, They see a little town like Albertville and know offense but the rednecks there who think they are drug dealers are no match for the lawless thugs who come from a country that cant even police it self. Where is the KKK as much as I am against what they stood for heres an area where they could actually do some good. Yes it would be vigilante but maybe they could stop what the law cant. All police are not crooked either but I bet the bad far out wiegh the good or the problem might not be so bad, Come on you Alabama rednecks that are still good take your towns back and quite puttin up with that and save your damn kids from themselves DUUUUUUUHHH

Well ok, I lived on Sand Mountain itself, Byrant to be exact. I am originally from AL but not that part. I had been in Ohio and got transferred to Chattanooga, by chance found a place on Sand Mountain. Jackson county had the highest rate of children being removed from homes due to drugs in the state. We never had issues though, saw some strange things, but all in all, was a great place to live. Meth is everywhere, just don't associate with people who do this. That part of the country is beautiful and cost of living is much less than the rest of the nation. We have since moved away.

I just read the post of JerryVince, what are talking about the schools are not racially mixed? Maybe it's because you live in the country where it is rural and all white, no fault of the school district. You are dead wrong, I went to a school that was "racially mixed" in the state. Pretty simple, if all white people live in a said school district, then the school will be all white kids. Arab is s small predominately white town, so the makeup of the school will reflect the make up of the population.

I think if you could make that documentary almost anywhere if your job is to look for it, then make dramatic with name like Meth Mountain, You could find these problems and much, much, worse in FL for example, at one time Polk co. Was considered the meth capital east of the missisippi, but for all that, it was still a great place and to most people would have never heard of the stuff or have seen it. Basically much more good and good people, but if u look for that sort of thing u can find it anywhere.

I agree.. I live in Arab and I have not seen anyone use meth, although I am sure it is around somewhere.

I am trying to help a friend that was consumed by what is Meth, I am looking for literature especially a work book called perhaps Green and Gold. My friend has been clean for awhile but more depth of healing is most important ! Could anyone help?

I know someone who worked at the water treatment plant in Guntersville. He said they made moonshine right there at the plant... but it wasn't that big of an operation because the families who controlled that kind of thing could make more money on meth. Someone asked him "If you hated Bob Emery so bad, why'd you go to his funeral?" His reply was, "I wanted to make sure he was really dead."
