I guess from reading them above posts, if you're an oldy but goldy, then a stay at home woman is mighty fine. Like I said, they ain't what they used to be brother. Mama stayed home to look after us children, but she cooked, cleaned and could churn butter too.
And I apologize as my response is from the perspective of both spouses with high incomes. If you make minimum wage, it would make more sense to stay home mostly, so I can understand why many of you have chosen that path. And we don't have to go on a war path for answering somebody's questions.

I mean good lord, I'm sure not every stay at home woman is getting hanky panky with the lawncare guy. Variety is the stuff of life: you got gardeners, delivery men (and it ain't the type of package you'll be wanting your wife to get), engineers and politicians and maybe an occasional bad boy construction type feller.

Charles, I don't think it was your question that offended people. I think it was financelife's opinion that offended quite a few people including myself. He definitely needs a few more life experiences and I pity the woman who marries him.
All you other ladies who replied, I totally agree and could add nothing else.

Developmentally, it made no sense and was of no benefit to take my child from one institution and in to another.
Economically, it would have been ridiculous to attempt working any job outside the home as my meager income would have gone directly toward the (above average) expense of childcare and transportation...with not enough left over to make it a fiscally sane option.
I will work from home as I become able to set up shop, after she enters the school system and has a regular schedule.
But I get the question, not offended. YES, moving to a location where we could more easily afford a house that accommodated a growing family, to have me home (and without a paycheck) was part of our decision to move here.
|
I also get the question. YES moving to a location where we could afford a nice home, to have me home and not working 2 jobs was a big reason why we chose Huntsville to retire.

And what exactly do you mean by oldy but goldly? I don't consider myself in that aspect and I SURE do NOT earn minimum wage. I choose to work from home because I make more money, choose my own hours and still have time to cook, clean and take care of my son and entertain for my husband's business, plus enjoy my own interests with friends, etc.

LOL! My DH would be thrilled if I pulled minimum wage while I was working because my salary shot us into a completely different tax bracket. Not only did I make more than he did, my benefits were much better.
Some people choose not to make their life choices based on what others think they should do. Instead, we do what is right for our family.
I'm just amazed at your narrowmindedness, considering how young and liberal you profess to be.
