The rumor I heard was another round similar to what happened a week or so ago, around the middle to the end of August.

Thanks Charles. The miiddle to end of August is also when Northrop Grumman is supposed to layoff as well, so both must be trying to get it done before the next fiscal year begins.

This is one of the few things in the stimulus package that I have actually agreed with.

I received resume from one casualty of this wave of layoff. This one is from local Boeing. But I have had several conversations with friends back in California that are very concerned if they will still have a job at the end of this year.

GeeEssTee is on a distinguished road
I heard a rumor yesterday that Obama/Dems, in the ever increasing quest to expand the size of Govt, are going to badge most of the contractors and convert them into civil servants. This could cause some problems for local contractors. In the past few years, there has been quite a bit of large building construction at RSA. A new PRL, and 2 ED buildings at MSFC and current construction on a huge AMC/USASAC HQ on Martin Rd.

Nice specious injection of politics into an otherwise informative thread. Don't assume everyone shares your biases. While I do work for one of those contractors I don't presume that privatization of government functions necessarily makes them cheaper. Nor does it make the size of the government smaller!

DanInHSV - "specious injection of politics"? The thread was started about politics - and the effects of the Obama administration on Huntsville's employment. Here's the OP: "Does anyone have any concerns about the new president cutting military/contractor/civilian jobs tied to MDA, NASA, and future combat systems?"

The rest of your comment is unresponsive to GeeEssTee's post. GST made no statement about privatization being cheaper, and GST's point was that the Govt size will grow (which is Obama's plan - shifting Kr jobs to Govt).

However, I'll go ahead and make the statement that privatization is usually cheaper - contractors don't require care and feeding like their Govt counterparts (mandatory this n that - much of a Govt worker's time is spent 'being' a Govt worker). The Govt also doesn't treat costs the same as a contractor would - much of Govt G&A and overhead is not included. None of Govt debt is included. Plus contractors are easier to get rid of.

If you voted for Obama, be sure to tell your contractor co-workers, so they can show their appreciation...

Tommy Battle was on Fox News Business this morning talking about Huntsville being bulletproof during this recession. Anyone see it? Huntsville has not been bulletproof as the layoffs in this thread have shown. He also talked about BRAC jobs coming and Huntsville's AAA bond rating. Made for some good PR at least.
