The was a nice article on MDA in December's Popular Mechanics. Here is the link The Hardware Behind Missile Protection - Popular Mechanics but I think the print article was better.

That article and it's associated article

Missile Defense Technology - Rogue Nuclear States - Popular Mechanics

if read by our spouses, might help change their response of

"Actually, I have know idea"

when asked

"So, what does your spouse do?"

Good links & articles.

My wife show little interests in the details of my job which saves me lots of time in explaining. But I did have to tell her a few things so that she will not panick in case a black un-marked van comes and drives me away at 2:00 am without tellin' her where I am going...

I wonder what would happen if we all got our wives together...

"So Gwen, Do you have the same experiences being married to an engineer as I do? Myron chose engineering after he realized he didn't have enough charisma to become an undertaker."

"You're telling me Mrytle. Bert wore the same short sleeve white shirt to work three days in a row. On top of that, he wore black pants and brown shoes. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right move. And he's so damn cheap too. He still drives his college 1984 Corolla with 276K miles on it."

"Ya, I've seen it. Isn't it the one with the hanger for a radio antenna?"

"Yep. That's it."

"When is he going to clean out all the McDonalds wrappers from the back seat?"

"I asked him about that...He said something about when they start flowing into the front seat."

"Oh girls, I can top that. So Harry comes home last night and I greet him in a night gown and martini. What does he do? He heads straight to the PC and logs on to City-Data."

"My mother wasn't kidding when she told me what engineers use for birth control. You know what she told me?

"No, What?"

"Are you ready for this? Their personalities. Ain't that a riot?"

"Marrying to an engineer is great, Gwen. I don't worry about him cheating on me. I can always find him in his office"

"No kidding, Mrytle. Getting Bert to do home remodeling project is easy. If he's not motivated, I just say 'never mind, I'll get Myron to do it because he's SMARTER !!'"

"Yeah! I just tell my husband that I am going to spend MONEY and hire a contractor!!"

"You guys are so right, but I do confess that sex is not as exciting as before I was married. I used to run around with this biker guy and OMG he was fantastic !!... now Harry just...."

"Not my Bert. These missile defense engineers know a thing or two about rockets going off !!!"

"Yeah well... they just not very good about early warning systems!"

<everyone giggles>

"Let's face it ladies... how else do we get SMART kids, don't get into trouble... and start drawing a salary before they lose their virginities ?"

<everyone nods and sip martini>

I love, love, love being married to an engineer. He's smart, responsible, handy around the house, makes a decent salary, has satisfying his wife down to a science, and would prefer looking at Circuit Celler or Make Magazine any day of the week over boring porn. Really, I'm not sure what else a woman wants in a husband!

Yuck. Honestly, I don't want a husband that spends more time on his appearance than I do. Brains over brawn, anyways. Different strokes for different folks I guess (no pun intended!)
