I used to live a couple blocks away from Star Market in Five Points. The meat section is the best in Huntsville. They offer Terry's Pizza, another old Huntsville staple. You bump into 10 people you know every time you go to grab something. Pretty decent beer and wine selection. I give it my vote.
I also like the little John's Big Brother on Holmes/Bradford. It is a little neighborhood grocery that has a limited inventory. I work kinda close to it, so I make trips before work and during lunch. Being from a rural area, I find it familiar in a way. I like to support neighborhood ventures.

I picked Publix because frankly I don't bother with others. They are friendly, courteous, and have a good selections. I occassionally wonders into Walmart food sections but I prefer Publix better.
Another choice is Costco. They don't have a lot of selection, but what they have are good quality. I particularly like their seafood section (salmon... yummm). Also their refrigerated veggie section is pretty good as well.

I don't live in 5 Points and rarely go to Star Market, but that has to be my favorite supermarket in Huntsville. It's one of the few neighborhood grocery stores left in Huntsville and has a charm and character that you can't get in the big chain stores. Great meat selection, Terry's Pizza, and great beer selection (although a little pricey).
Why is Holiday Foods not on this list? Haha... I'm kidding.

Dee, I have been too scared to go in there. My wife went there, without my knowledge, and said it was "cleaner than Star". I about had a radioactive fit when she told me. She is brave lady!

Surely your wife is kidding. Holiday Foods is not for the faint of heart. I'm not sure how that place has remained in business for 30+ years.

Is Garden Cove a true grocery store? I've never heard of it before.

It's on Patton Rd just south of Bob Wallace.
You know, the old A&P!
