It still is, but not on a per capita basis as I think Huntsville is and also, not these days with Boeing and Northrop Grumman losing out on a couple of big contracts recently.

You showed good indepth knowledge of LA aerospace companies and history. I am old enough to remember

Hughes (Space & Comm, Ground, Radar Sys, Missile Sys, Hughes Research Center, etc.),
Rockwell (North American, Space Systems, Autonetics, Rocketdyne, etc.),
TRW,
McDonnell Douglas (previously Douglas Aircraft & Douglas Astronautics),
Litton
Teledyne
ITT
... etc.

Let's also not forget thousands of smaller manufacturing companies that supported these big guys. Some of them are still the best in what they do in the country.
