Default Alabama HS students: $100 to earn college credit via AP

"10 Huntsville and Madison County High Schools Become Part of $7M Initiative

The governor detailed a new initiative to get more high school students interested in those areas. Riley also wants students to hit the books to prepare for college courses.

Governor Bob Riley was in Huntsville to announce a plan for 10 high schools in Huntsville and Madison County to benefit from a 7 million dollar advanced placement initiative.

Ten area high schools are part of a 7 million dollar initiative to boost the number of kids prepared to take rigorous college courses in math and science.

"Today, we're blowing all the other states in the nation away," added Governor Riley.

What's the incentive for students to take the course? Gov. Riley says they'll get $100 if they earn a college credit on an A.P. Test. The money will come from sponsors.

The 10 schools participating in the initiative are:

Buckhorn High School, Butler High School, Columbia High School, Hazel Green High School, Huntsville High School, J.O. Johnson High School, Lee High School, Madison County High School, New Hope High School, and Sparkman High School. "

Interesting...I wonder how the program is going to compensate for a university that awards credit for a score of 3 on an AP exam versus another university that only awards credit for a score of 4 or 5, versus a school that does not award any credit for AP exams, regardless of the score.
