Soccer options in Madison
Depends on your age. If you're looking for a recreational league close to Madison, then yes, AYSO Madison is a good choice. But ages up to U10, even in club leagues, are recreational too.
Huntsville Soccer Club has a very good youth program. Go to website and choose YOUTH TRAINING SYSTEM. Spring Season begins March 2nd. U8-U10 KickAround & Player Registration - Mon, Feb. 23 6:00 - 7:00 @Merrimack
http://www.huntsvillesoccerclub.org
There are no boundaries for the soccer teams with regards to where you live. For example, a resident of Hampton Cove is not limited to HSC or AYSO Huntsville. A resident of Monrovia is not limited to AYSO Monrovia....etc... I say this, because there are sometimes boundary restrictions with other sports in the area like baseball.
AYSO Huntsville teams primarily play at John Hunt Park, AYSO Madison at Palmer or Dublin Parks, AYSO Monrovia at school and church fields in Monrovia. Club teams will travel around the state for their state league games. When home, HSC primarily plays at Merrimack and John Hunt Park and Valley FC is at Dublin Park.
Fall is the primary season for Club/recreational teams in Alabama, with Spring being the school season. So fewer teams in the spring.
Here are primary soccer leagues in the area.

Thanks that is really helpful. I think I'd like to keep them in the Madison league. I figure the might know more kids from school.

When your child is ready, I would try out for Valley Futbol. Great club, and a higher level of coaching and play. It is competitive soccer, and play time is earned. It is more of a monetary investment, but if your child is very interested, it could be a good investment.

Is there some type of adults' rec type team? Or does anyone host a soccer training type of thing...like a class. I'd love to get involved with soccer as a new way to get some exercise.

HASL is the Huntsville Adult Soccer League

Rocket City United offered Gym-Ball this winter for both youths and adults at the Sparkman 9th Grade Gym and the Gurley Rec Center. I believe only a couple weeks remain.

We play lunchtime (noon) soccer at Intergraph in the fields SE of 565 and Wall Triana. Directly south of the pond.

boilrmkr,
Valley Futbol has a developmental team, you may want to check it out. Valley has great coaches, and the majority of the kids are Madison kids. Valley will also do a spring camp during spring break that is very reasonable and gets the kiddos out of the house for a little bit every day!
