Are there areas of Athens to avoid when looking for a house to buy? We're moving back to the area after living out of state for the last 22 years. Decatur, Athens and Huntsville have all changed so much. Thanks for your replies.

The east side of Athens (east of the interstate) and East Limestone between Madison and Athens are really booming with growth. That is a good area to invest it. You would not believe the growth over the past few years! I have heard really good things about the schools as well.
Just beware of *some* of the builders out there...we have found some MAJOR code violations on some of the new construction homes. Get a GOOD home inspector.

Also, the "historic" area of Athens around downtown is experiencing a revitalization.

I agree with madisonmamma, Athens, Madison, and East Limestone are exploding as we speak.

I'm not an agent, just a home owner looking to sell my home east of Athens. I live on Southern Gales Golf Course. Beautiful country living, but yet very close to Athens, Madison and Huntsville. Wanting to move to Fl. and searching all sites with people asking about home in North Al. It is a great place to live but my children are out on their own and we are ready for the beach!!! OH, FYI, I have a pool overlooking the golf course!!!!
