While I agree the road runs both ways(and that is one of my favorite sayings BTW), they have a larger "base" population to draw from. We might get there one day, but right now we are not. If I was opening a large business like that I would want to be located among the largest local population that I could-and then attract outsiders from there. Not go to a small town and hope that those from a larger city with more choices would come out despite having local choices. JMO

How good is that info? If Waterstone could get built, that would be a huge shot in the arm for the city of Madison and the tax base as well.

@ Charles...Ikea has a lot more than just big furniture! The small stuff is wonderful, too. It's a great place to shop for B-Days, house warming, etc. I would be in there all the time. Some of them have a cafe, too, which pulls in business. How many threads are on here about people moving in to town? That's a great deal of business. I just bought a new bigger home and need new furniture. My family will be trekking to Atlanta!
As for Earth Fare, never been in one. What rocks about Trader Joe's is that they sell organic and natural foods at a price that is EXTREMELY reasonable. They also sell many convenience foods and gourmet foods that are fast and easy, but not loaded with crap. Theyhave nailed the concept and are the best at what they do. I'd LOVE to have one here. As it is, I'll be trekking to Nashville with coolers to fill and then stock the heck out my extra freezer!

Also, if they put IKEA in Huntsville, people would drive from all over to go there. We're driving 3.5 hours to the one in Atlanta. B'Ham people would visit for sure!
But it's all a dream, I'm sure. I don't see IKEA coming any time soon.

Stick an IKEA in the Waterstone development and call it a day.

OK, then have it shipped. I'm not against an IKEA, I'm just writing that there are work arounds.

We looked into that once. Rather cost prohibitive, at least for furniture.

Right, I was only suggesting that for small stuff mentioned in the post I was quoting. For big stuff, stuff infrequently purchased, drive to Atlanta.

I've heard alot of IKEA hype, I've never been in one to know if I would like it. I'm all for something different in the area. Plus, Alabama doesn't already have one that I recall!!

@ Charles:
With IKEA, a large part of the appeal is the window-shopping factor. You can shop online and have things shipped, sure, but it is so much more fun to cruise up and down the aisles of this incredibly huge store. The variety and prices boggle the mind a bit, and add to that, the style is so different from the generally traditional and ornate style I've seen here in the South. It's not just about finding what you want and bringing it home - it's the whole experience of shopping!
But enough said about IKEA. They should pay me for me money for all this advertising!
