I was thinking about this today - as I was stuck in a big line of cars around 7:50 AM heading east waiting to get past Slaughter. Widening Madison Pike from Slaughter to Research Park won't do much for the morning commute. All the backup is eastbound west of Slaughter. Once an eastbound car gets east of Slaughter, there is no traffic.

Can anyone please give me information on the proposed northern/southern bypass? Will this road be limited access or just a regular road with traffic lights and other signals and signs? How many lanes will this road have? When will it begin construction? Your information will be greatly appreciated!

Yes, this guy does:

"To leave a comment or question about traffic or roads, contact Keith Clines at 532-4236, e-mail keith.clines@htimes.com or fax 532-4420. Please include your name, address and a way you can be contacted. "

"The Alabama Department of Transportation is building the new bridge over the Tennessee River on Alabama 35 in three phases. "

Interesting statement from the above online article:

"Although the sidewalks were built to accommodate bikes in 1983, it is illegal to ride a bicycle on a sidewalk, Moore said. "

Improvements will be made to Zierdt and Martin Roads. Memorial Parkway will also have ovrpasses at Martin Road, Byrd Spring Road and Lily Flag Road. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be extended to Memorial Parkway; an interchange is proposed for this site.

padmaster is on a distinguished road
In my opinion there are other roads that need the attention. Just to name a couple; Meridian Street between Oakwood and Monroe is horendous, Church Street between Pratt and Monroe isn't much better than driving down a dirt road full of potholes. Any idea when these roads will be resurfaced?

There is an Alabama Dept of Transportation white sign on 565 westbound a little west of Memorial Parkway, maybe near Jordan that reads

"Move Over for Stopped Emergency Vehicles When Clear"

What could this possibly mean?
