Pub?
A place where you can get food that isn't hot wings and really good, really cold pints of beer.
Just curious if there's one 'round here. If they showed football (like EPL not NFL) or racing (like F1 not NASCAR) that'd be a plus.
I'd even settle for a "fake one" like the ones back east (Sine, Capital City, you know the type, mini chains that just give you the pub flavor.)
TIA...

Have you been to Mason's? It has a nice pub feel, free pool tables, lots of flatscreens... The food is pretty good as well. It isn't a classic Irish pub kind of place, it is more like a sportsbar with a pub feel.

Nope, I'll check it out.
The only place we found didn't seem to welcoming when we walked it. It was a little bar type deal in a grocery shopping center type place. I guess it's more for regulars and their buddies. No biggie.
We're willing to check out just about any place.

Finnegan's on the Parkway by Joe Davis Stadium is a nice Irish Pub. Great for St. Pat's.

Pub's are just not a part of Alabama culture.

The Nook has THE best beer selection in town. 18 on tap and about 150 in bottles. No Bud, Miller, or Coors products. We don't serve ANYTHING that is "really cold" either. Usually, beer that must be served at palate numbing cold temp is not worth having anyway...something to hide usually. You will find beer from overseas varieties like Paulaner Hefeweizen, Marzen, Pilsner Urquell and American craft varieties like (local) Olde Towne Pilsner, Hefe, Porter, Chocolate Stout, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Dead Guy Ale, Hazelnut Brown Nectar, Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, Terrapin India Brown Ale, Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, etc.
As for sports? We're not a sports bar. But we tend to cater to the bigger American football events (BCS Champ, Super Bowl, Iron Bowl, etc).

sounds good, and i know what you mean (it seems the blondes are better really cold though, but i'm no expert, i just like to drink it)....
I'll check out both. I'd have never found those places. I looked on Yelp and nothing came up.

The Nook is a nice, neighborhood bar kind of place. As deesonic said, it is not a sports bar, though. It is a nice place to hang out with a group of friends and talk though.

Ruggby's is a sports bar and has all of the above. Great folks and friendly atmosphere. I'm new here and they accepted me as a regular already!

You must have found Allen's Grill & Grog. I went there when I first moved here and hadn't been there but a couple times when a regular tried to make me move out of "his" seat. I cussed him out and never went back.
