Yes, because before BRAC, people in Huntsville were riding around in horse drawn carriages.

Six Flags has $2 BILLION in debt, while posting losses. Like so much of your other wishful thinking:
Not.
Gonna.
Happen.

My oldest attended day camp there last summer and my two oldest will be at Space Camp and Space Day Camp for two weeks this summer (by the way, I got $200 off, so $799-$200 = $599 for Space Camp).
And next year when my oldest is in 5th grade she'll do Space Camp again (a different version) with her 5th grade class so I do think all the Huntsville City School kids actually do attend Space Camp (though it isn't an overnight version).
I may go to the Space and Rocket Center when my brother in law visits in late March.

Bingo! Thanks, mm42!
Actually, I think the park I was thinking of (the one that goes back to the mid=1960s) was going to be themed around a railroad and a lake or something like that...and then the Rocket City thing was a little later.

Well, I don't really think Huntsville is well-suited for a theme park, but I disagree that the amusement park business is going away. Opryland failed because it was badly managed. Since it closed, Dollywood has thrived and expanded by appealing to the same customer base.
Six Flags is a badly managed company, and they tried to turn their parks into a national brand, but amusement park visitors are on vacation and they are looking for something fun and unique. Amusement parks need to be marketed as a unique experience, not as a known quantity like McDonald's.
Visiting a unique amusement park like Lake Winnie with character is a far more enjoyable experience than visiting a corporate-clone Six Flags with recycled rides from other parks.
Six Flags over Georgia, for instance, had a charming Southern feel to it when it opened, but over time it has been reduced to a generic Six Flags no different from the one in New Jersey.

I don't think it would work. It seems the astronaut as big-time hero era or manned space filght era is older than me -- now it seems it's about rovers and "routine" shuttle flights. It's a shame people seem to take it for granted.
I guess the space camp is still popular with kids all over.
Wasn't Astro World in Houston sort-of space themed back in the day?

It didn't work in Myrtle Beach. It sure as heck won't work in Huntsville.
