Had a cut and color Saturday by my stylist at NeoMode. She's the best color person I've ever run across. DM me if you'd like her name.

OK, you are all going to think I am a bit crazy, but here goes....

Why not color at home? I used to spend crazy amounts on salon color too-I once had a custom 5 shade/3 color(blonde, brunette, and auburn) highlight/lowlight with a star at the crown of my head thing going on(imagine the price tag on that one-and time, it took 5-1/2 hours with the cut). Then we moved to an area that I couldn't find anyone that did what I considered to be a good color and I started coloring from a box(the semi permanent stuff that lasts 6 weeks "just in case").

Since, I have had people ask where I color my hair. Even a few stylists have asked(even one up here in Chicago)-and they couldn't believe it was a home job. It seems home color has really changed and might not be a bad option for those who are "between salons." To me it was better than paying $150+ only to be unhappy with the results.

Like every other woman, I don't mind paying, I just want to get what I pay for.

In the same vein, does anyone know who does nails without the electric grinder?

That's what my wife does. She's almost as cheap as I am.

Tammie, I did color my hair a few months ago..myself, well my hubby helped me. It does save money, but unfortunately I have horrible vision and can't color my hair by myself. It can be an expensive process in having a stylist do it, but my hubby can't help me all the time and I need a good pair of eyes. I'm hoping to just find someone good around here, who can make this a lot easier for me.

I understand completely, I have paid and I will again if I find someone worth the money and my color becomes more complicated(the price to fix a botched job is tremendous-I let a girlfriend highlight my hair in high school-AGGGH, my mother was thrilled), but the stories in this thread were consistently saying that they hadn't found anyone THAT good and rather than pay through the nose for a bad or so-so color....

I go to Artisans on Airport and Whitesberg. I really like Amy....I have had lots of compliments on my haircut and color. Jeff the owner is great too. Lots of services and yesterday I got a hand and arm massage for free! It was fabulous.

I want to thank Charles's wife for letting me know how great Amy cuts hair!
