Any opinions on New Hope Telephone Coop?
One of the houses I'm considering buying is apparently not served by Comcast, who is my current internet provider. I may end up with "New Hope Telephone Coop" for internet... and I must say, their website must have been developed by a 5th grader. It's not very useful and exceptionally "1996".
Anyone have internet through New Hope Telephone Coop? I'm leery of "local ISPs" - as I've had extremely poor experiences in the past.
House is great, and we enjoy being out in the country, so long as I have a decent high speed internet connection. If that's not the case with New Hope, I can scratch this house from my list.

How about asking your potential future neighbors? Maybe this Saturday afternoon if the weather is nice, just drive around when they are out in the front yard or something.

They have just installed a new system and are planning on expanding something......
It all sounds good in theory.

I did google, but all I found was a press release on a fiber deal with some manufacturer. I haven't actually found anything that suggests NHTC actually offers fiber service - or anything on where.
I guess I should feel good about them investing in FTTH but man, you'd think a forward thinking organization would have a much better online presence.
I should call them and offer to redevelop their website in exchange for free fiber service. lol

Quote:
FEBRUARY 27, 2009 -- Draka Communications (search Lightwave for Draka) and New Hope Telephone Cooperative (NHTC) have jointly announced the completion of the first phase of NHTC's FTTH network using 100% bend-insensitive fiber.
NHTC is currently deploying Draka's BendBright-XS bend-insensitive fiber in all cables, from two-fiber drop cables to 864-fiber ribbon feeder cables. The first phase of the NHTC network in northern Alabama, which began in February 2008, contains over 30,000 km of bend-insensitive fiber.
NHTC, headquartered outside Huntsville, AL, serves the townships of New Hope, Grant, and Owens Cross Roads. "We are committed to providing our customers with the best services delivered and supported by the latest proven technologies. Having bend-insensitive fiber throughout the network increases efficiency in installation and enhances the longevity and reliability of the network," commented Tom Wing, general manager of NHTC. "We expect to use Draka's BendBright-XS family of cables across our entire network going forward."
Draka's BendBright was first introduced in 2002 and became standard in all Draka drop cables in 2005. Draka released BendBright-XS, its second-generation bend-insensitive fiber, in 2006.
